I think two of the many simple pleasures in life are receiving an unexpected letter and getting an email saying your package has shipped. The website with the tracking status of my package immediately becomes my most visited website as I wait for my parcel with great anticipation.
As it turns out, it’s fairly common to be excited about an impending delivery. Fortunately for myself and others like me, it’s easy to keep an eye on all the stops and turns our packages make on their way to our doorsteps.
Watch this video to see how to track your mail and package deliveries online.
USPS Informed Delivery
The U.S. Postal Service offers a service called Informed Delivery. The free feature sends you scanned images of the mail heading your way via email, the USPS app or their website.
It's not just for pieces of mail. In addition, Informed Delivery tracks packages shipped via USPS. You can also opt-in for delivery status updates, give instructions to the delivery driver and digitally sign for a Signature Required package, even when you’re not at home.

Track Packages
Google can search for packages being delivered by FedEx, UPS and USPS. All you have to do is paste the tracking number into the search bar and hit search.
A box will appear on the page with a button that says something like “Track Package” or “Track Via,” followed by the carrier. Depending on who is shipping the package, clicking the button will show the shipment status on the page or you will be redirected to the carrier’s tracking page with the tracking number already loaded up.
Gmail
Google has taken package tracking to the next level and integrated it into your Gmail inbox. The details automatically update, letting you see the status of some of your packages in real time right from your inbox.
Package statuses in Gmail will appear:
- In the same line as the email when viewing your inbox.
- At the top of an open email with a tracking number in it.
Labels include expected delivery dates and status, like “label created.” However, the tracking information for some packages may not be available directly in Gmail.
You can opt in or out of this feature in Gmail Settings.
Amazon
To track Amazon orders:
- Find Your Orders on the website or in the app.
- Select the specific order.
- Click Track Package.
You can also use Amazon Shipping to follow your order’s journey.
