An active shooter threat in Tennessee was neutralized Monday, with police reporting that the person shot and killed themselves before they could execute a potential mass shooting event in a Chattanooga office park.
Sgt. Victor Miller, a Chattanooga Police public information officer, said at a press conference that "a shooter was inside the building attempting to execute a plan," and that it had failed.
"We found that he shot himself and he is deceased," said Miller, in the city of 185,000 located about 130 miles southeast of Nashville.
Police responded to reports of an "active shooter situation" at an office building early Monday afternoon, according to a department Facebook post.
Residents were warned to steer clear of the 2000 Block of Hamilton Place Blvd.
Miller said there were no injuries to report, but that the investigation into the incident was "active and ongoing."
Businesses in the area, including Hamilton Place Mall, have lifted lockdowns in place and have resumed normal operations. There is no threat to the public at this time, Miller said.
